1Title:  J. E. Rhoads & Sons, Inc. photograph collection
Notes:  The majority of the images in the collection consist of views of machines in identified American factory settings which were outfitted with Rhoads belts; other views show the belts installed on machinery in a variety of buildings and businesses. The factory views are arranged predominately by industry (the more numerous categories are leather and shoes, textiles, iron and steel, pulp and paper, lumber, flour mills). Some of these factory views include workers, but the majority show machines exclusively, and many only show the belting on machinery. One item of interest are photos of The Boston Globe newspaper printing facility. There are also some views of the Rhoads factory (exterior and interiors) showing the tanning and preparation of leather and some photographs showing Rhoads products. Some of these images include workers. There are photographs of the Rhoads family--most especially the four Rhoads brothers who ran the company in the 20th century--and the company's salesmen and employees. The latter were photographed at annual conventions, company dinners, and anniversaries. There is also a copy photograph of the Leather Belting Manufacturers' Association at a 1909 dinner and a National Association of Leather Belting Manufacturers , 1922. There are 26 cassette tapes which contain oral histories with Philip, Mary, and Eugenia Rhoads and an assortment of former Rhoads employees. There are also eight filmstrips which show miscellaneous Rhoads belting installations.
 Extent:  48 photographic prints : b&w ; 16 x 20 in. or smaller.
