16Title:  Papers on economic conditions, 1933-1938
Creator:  Du Pont, Pierre S. (Pierre Samuel), 1870-1954
Notes:  This series documents Pierre S. du Pont's activities on the Business Advisory Council and National Labor Relations Board. Correspondence describes P.S. du Pont's attitudes towards the Banking Act of 1935, the Wagner Labor Relations Bill, and the Townsend Old Age pension proposals. These papers show that during the early days of the New Deal, Pierre S. du Pont maintained a close relationship with NIRA administrator Hugh Johnson and he hoped that FDR's recovery program would be based on a system of "industrial cooperation" that would recognize the predominant role that big business was playing in American economic life. The papers document Pierre S. du Pont's support for the Gerard Swope plan for "industrial self government".
