 Notes:  Autograph letter signed to Samuel Jandon, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 30 April 1837, from Nicholas Biddle. Biddle refers in this letter to two important developments of the day. One was the Panic of 1837, which had just begun and was resulting in bank and business failures, credit restriction, drops in commodity and land prices, and increased unemployment. Biddle then turns to the growing national controversy over slavery.

The weather conditions and daily activities are often recorded, and there appear many commentaries on literature as well as anxieties about whether she will marry.
