10Title:  The story of Act 31: how Native history came to Wisconsin classrooms
 Creator:  Leary, J. P., 1972-
Notes:  "Since its passage in 1989, a state law known as Act 31 requires that all students in Wisconsin learn about the history, culture, and tribal sovereignty of Wisconsin's Indian tribes. The Story of Act 31 examines how this law came to be, tracing its origins from a court decision in 1983 that affirmed Native hunting and fishing treaty rights in Wisconsin to the often-violent public outcry that following the court's decision. Author JP Leary argues that the controversy over treaty rights was a direct product of past policy decisions that effectively denied generations of Wisconsin students the opportunity to learn about tribal history. Act 31 stands as an important example of how American Indians worked through the policy system to pursue positive change"--Provided by publisher. 12Title:  Medicine at Harvard: the first three hundred years
Creator:  Beecher, Henry K. (Henry Knowles), 1904-1976 | Altschule, Mark D.
Publication:  University Press of New England, Hanover, N.H, 1977.
Notes:  Includes bibliographical references and index. "Since 1782 Harvard Medical School has been associated with most of the world's great developments in medicine, often as either creator or challenger. This generously documented assessment of Harvard's contributions contains no chronologies of names and dates. Instead, the authors use the framework of medical education to introduce the key discoveries, and the ideas that made them possible. The emphasis is upon both the men themselves- in the classroom, the laboratory, the hospital- and the medicine they made. The book fills a long-standing gap in the history of Harvard and of modern medical education."--Jacket.
