10Title:  Color and design
Creator:  DeLong, Marilyn Revell, 1939- | Martinson, Barbara.
Publication:  Berg Publishers, London, New York, 2012.
Notes:  "From products we use to clothes we wear, and spaces we inhabit, we rely on color to provide visual appeal, data codes and meaning. Color and Design addresses how we understand and experience color, and through specific examples explores how color is used in a spectrum of design-based disciplines including apparel design, graphic design, interior design, and product design. Through highly engaging contributions from a wide range of international scholars and practitioners, the book explores color as an individual and cultural phenomenon, as a pragmatic device for communication, and as a valuable marketing tool. Color and Design provides a comprehensive overview for scholars and an accessible text for students on a range of courses within design, fashion, cultural studies, anthropology, sociology and visual and material culture. Its exploration of color in marketing as well as design makes this book an invaluable resource for professional designers. It will also allow practitioners to understand how and why color is so extensively varied and offers such enormous potential to communicate"-- Includes bibliographical references and index.

15Title:  Files relating to William C. Pahlmann's book projects, 1946-1976 (bulk, 1955-1968)
 Creator:  Pahlmann, William C., 1900-1987
Notes:  This series covers Pahlmann's attempts to disseminate his views on interior design through the medium of published books. Pahlmann composed a number of manuscripts, including ones titled "Pahlmann primer," "Decorator secrets," and "A matter of taste," but only one, "The Pahlmann book of interior design," was published in 1955. It was, however, successful, and was reissued in two subsequent editions in 1960 and 1968, as well as numerous reprintings. The files provide insight into the reasons for the success of "The Pahlmann book of interior design" and the reasons for the failure of Pahlmann's other book projects. The include drafts and page proofs, correspondence with editors and publishers, requests for photos, original artwork, and discussions of layout and dust jackets, commercial and legal issues, publicity and royalties. There are also copies of all three editions of "The Pahlmann book of interior design," one with a Christmas drawing by Henry Dreyfuss.
