 Notes:  The Cope diaries exist in three forms. The first is the original manuscripts in 8 volumes. The second is a typescript abridgement made by a descendant, Mrs. George Emlen, and the third is a second, different abridgement edited by Eliza Cope Harrison and published as PHILADELPHIA MERCHANT: THE DIARY OF THOMAS P. COPE (South Bend, Ind.: 1978). Both the original manuscript and the Emlen typescript are in the Quaker Collection of the Haverford College Library.
