This workshop was the fourth in a series that started with LRT2004 at Laurentian University, Sudbury, Canada (hosted by SNOLAB). The following meetings were the LRT2006 at the CNRS center in Aussois, France (hosted by the Modane underground laboratory) and the LRT2010 workshop at the SNOLAB surface facility, Creighton Mine, Sudbury, Canada. This series of workshops is to explore topics in low radioactivity techniques and materials, that represent a fundamental part of rare event physics detector systems and methodology. In particular double-beta decay, dark matter (under the form of WIMPs), long half-life and rare pheomena such as proton decay and solar neutrinos detection. The aim of the workshop is the gathering of the world's experts on these very specialized topics, with the intention to continue holding these workshops every 2-3 years."--Preface (page 1). 15 | Title: | Improved rocketsonde parachute-derived wind profiles | | | Creator: | Kays, Marvin. | United States Army Electronics Command | Atmospheric Sciences Laboratory (U.S.) | | | Publication: | Atmospheric Sciences Laboratory, White Sands Missile Range, N.M, 1966. | | | Notes: | This work is part of the library's "Parachute History Collection" donated by Sandia National Laboratories through the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Aerodynamic Deceleration Systems Technical Committee. "ECOM-5086."--T.p. "October 1966."--T.p. "ECOM United States Army Electronics Command."--Cover. A correction technique to derive a realistic wind profile from an observed parachute wind profile has been developed and is being used at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico. Wind profiles are obtained by utilizing a computer and data obtained by an FPS-16 radar which tracks the parachute and records parachute position at the rate of 10 points per second on a digital tape. To test the validity of the correction technique, several experiments were conducted in which two rockets, one containing a parachute wind sensor and the other containing special high altitude chaff, were fired within a time period of five minutes. The corrections were applied to the parachute-determined winds and the resulting wind profiles compared with the chaff-determined wind profiles. In extreme cases, the correction can amount to 200 meters per second. | | | Extent: | v, 18, [10] p. : ill. ; 27 cm. | | | Subjects: | Sounding rockets | Parachutes | Winds -- Measurement -- Equipment and supplies

20 | Title: | Shakespeare's possible worlds | | | Creator: | Palfrey, Simon | Horace Howard Furness Memorial Library (University of Pennsylvania) | | | Notes: | "New methods are needed to do justice to Shakespeare. His work exceeds conventional models, past or present, for understanding playworlds. In this book, Simon Palfrey goes right to the heart of early modern popular drama, recovering both how it works and why it matters. Unlike his contemporaries, Shakespeare gives independent life to all of his instruments, and to every fraction and fragment of the plays. Palfrey terms these particles "formactions" - theatre-specific forms that move with their own action and passion. Palfrey's book is critically daring both in substance and format. It unique mix of imaginative gusto, thought-experiments, and virtuosic technique generates piercing close readings of the plays. There is far more to playlife than meets the eye. Influenced by Leibniz's visionary original model of possible worlds, this book opens up the multiple worlds of Shakespeare's language, scenes and characters as never before"-- Includes bibliographical references and index. | | | Extent: | xii, 382 pages ; 24 cm | | | Subjects: | Shakespeare, William, -- 1564-1616 -- Technique | Shakespeare, William, -- 1564-1616 -- Dramatic production | English drama -- Early modern and Elizabethan, 1500-1600 -- History and criticism -- Theory, etc | LITERARY CRITICISM / European / English, Irish, Scottish, Welsh
