The greater Philadelphia region is rich in astronomical history, mostly unknown to the area's current  professional and amateur astronomers. From forgotten hermits of the Wissahickon Valley, pioneering land surveyors, early American scientists and enterprising amateurs, the birth of American astronomy has as much to do with Philadelphia as any region of the Colonies. This talk will take you on an historical astronomy journey from the earliest period of American history up to the 20th century.
