The Mütter Research Institute invites you to discover more about its groundbreaking scientific research and to meet the experts working on these projects behind the scenes!
 
Old Collections and New Science is a full day event showcasing the diverse collaborative projects pioneered by the research arm of the Mütter Museum, including:
 
  • tracking ancient DNA across the globe through time,
  • the recent discovery and excavation of hundreds of historical remains at a construction site on Arch St, Philadelphia, and
  • the analysis of mystery pox virus material from the Museum collection…
 
Featuring several short presentations followed by a panel discussion and audience questions, the symposium features scientific experts who will discuss their projects involving the collections from the Mütter Museum.
 
Presentations examine the opportunities to identify genetic disease histories to better inform 21st-century human health and the epidemiology.
 
This event is open to the general public. Light snacks will be provided. Lunch is not provided, but there are many nearby options.
 
Registration opens at 8AM.
 
Funding for the symposium has been generously provided by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
