Join the American Philosophical Society in collaboration with the Center for Medical Humanities & Social Medicine at Johns Hopkins and the Ecological Design Collective for a public conversation about the critical role of community and civic engagement for building and sustaining human health and well-being. The program brings together an interdisciplinary group of speakers who will share examples ranging from the impact of air quality on affordable housing to the ways waterways and communal spaces can break down social and political divides to the lessons still learned from home remedies carefully passed down and preserved by 18th-century women healers. Taken together, the conversation will highlight the power of community for building opportunities for healing and resilience in the past, present, and future.

This program is part of “America’s Scientific Revolutionaries," a two-year initiative funded by the Richard Lounsbery Foundation highlighting the work of lesser-known scientists and physicians active during the Revolutionary era. You can learn more about this project here.

This event will be held onsite at the Enoch Pratt Free Library, Central Library in Baltimore, MD.

This event is free and open to the public. Please register to attend this event in person.
