Industrial activity and military and agricultural mobilization during World War I in the United States was without precedent and was essential for Allied victory in 1918. Environmental analysis of the effects of industrialization in the United States between 1914 and 1920 has received little historical analysis in comparison to research on the economic, military, and technological aspects of the war.
This project examines the United States’ approach to industrial and military mobilization during World War I through a series of interrelated case studies focusing on the environment.
