Papers of biochemist and evolutionary biologist Walter M. Fitch (25 linear feet). Walter Monroe Fitch (1929-2011) was born in San Diego. He received both an AB in chemistry (1953) and a PhD in biochemistry (1958) from the University of California, Berkeley.

The Chemical Heritage Foundation acquired 50 linear feet of Hercules records from Ashland, Inc. in March 2012. The Hercules Powder Company was formed in 1882 by DuPont and the Laflin & Rand Powder Company. It was reorganized in 1912 and spun-off from DuPont as a result of a Federal Court decree which ordered DuPont to divest its interests in the explosives industry due to violations of the Sherman Anti-Trust Act. The Wilmington based company was acquired by Ashland Inc. in 2008. Examples of items in the collection include:

The Center now offers a Postdoctoral Fellowship for students of history of science, technology and medicine. More information and an online application here.

The Center’s postdoctoral fellow receives a stipend of $45,000 per year for two years. This fellow will be expected to spend two academic years at the Center, to participate in the Center’s events, and to assist in light administrative duties to help run the Center and its activities.
